The Division of Adolescent Medicine at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles has provided transyouth prevention services since 1996, and is the largest and most experienced clinical program in the United States. Our unique multidisciplinary care approach includes a dedicated team of case managers, psychologists and physicians who are committed to treating gender questioning and gender transitioning youth.
Each patient has a care plan that is developed together with the team and the individual, and includes elements from any or all of the following programs:
1) the Transgender Harm Reduction Project, a hormone replacement, mental health services, case management project;
2) the Tranny Rockstar Project; an HIV prevention project involving young transgender women in the design and implementation of activities designed to influence social norms and;
3) TG-AIM, a CDC-funded project targeting HIV prevention, and adult mentor support around life issues for transgender youth.
We currently provide services for approximately 100 youth between the ages of 10 and 25 who are gender questioning, preparing for transitioning, or actively transitioning. Our transgender youth come from a range of socioeconomic backgrounds, and ethnic backgrounds include Caucasian, African American, Asian and Latino.
